Fall Vibes and Movie Nights

If there’s one thing Syracuse knows how to do, it’s host an outdoor movie night. Whether it's Romcoms at the Sound Garden or Wicked at the Amp, these seem to be a staple in the community for all ages.
I loved going to the Moonlight Movie Series at the Amp, it was such a cool setup and fun experience but taking that walk from the parking lot with 2 little ones and a full stroller was a little difficult. That’s why I’m so excited about Syracuse's Parks and Rec's Movie Nights in the Park. These shows are happening right in our neighborhoods, and that makes them so much more accessible (and way less stressful) for families.
The series kicks off tonight, September 12th at Thornden Park with the Disney classic Lilo & Stitch! I’m extra excited this year because my toddler is getting better with sitting through a whole movie and I get to start sharing some of my favorite Disney movies with her.
📅 Here’s the full lineup of dates, locations, and movies:
September 12 – Thornden Park – Lilo & Stitch
September 19 – Upper Onondaga Park – How to Train Your Dragon
September 26 – Barry Park – Trolls: Band Together
October 3 – Meachem Park – Moana 2
October 17 – Inner Harbor – Jurassic Rebirth (PG-13)
The best part? These movie nights are free and totally laid-back. No one cares if your kid gets up and starts dancing to the soundtrack, or if you pull out enough snacks to feed a small army. Each park has its own charm, too. Thornden’s hillside is perfect for sprawling out, Barry Park always feels super family-friendly, and Inner Harbor in October is the ultimate cozy blanket-and-hot-chocolate vibe.
For me, these nights are a win-win: the kids get a fun adventure and a late bedtime treat, I get to rewatch movies I secretly love (Moana 2), and we all get to be part of something that feels special and community-driven. It’s less about sitting still for the movie and more about being together. So if you’re looking for something easy, fun, and family-friendly, this is for you!
